Chapter twelve.
Tony’s slaves.
In our school, sometimes absolutely extraordinary things happened, in which neither a single preclear, who has not passed the highest auditing procedures, will be able to believe; one of such things was a special system of exploitation of man by man, which we called «slavery», although this was not in its pure form.
In our Republic, many things that are incompatible in the opinion of a philistine are combined in the most bizarre way: a high level of teaching in our school was combined with such wild things in the ethical sense that I am still giving myself a miracle, remembering this. The essence of this phenomenon was very simple, and the details are complex, but from the viewpoint of the observer-observer it was so approximately: there is Antonina Bozhenka, to which all the children ofour district are subordinate.
In fact, everything was approximately the same, with some degree of detail, of course: Tonya had a rather large staff of people dependent on her, who carried out her orders. The execution of orders was in no way a toy, but the most eerie and present to pain, and sometimes to laughter; dependent schoolboy could at any minute, even at three o'clock in the morning, call Antonina's house for urgent work, could take all his savings from him, and punish him throughphysical and mental torments. Those who became addicted were called «slaves», which became easy, but finding relief from the scourge turned out to be extremely difficult for everyone, which nevertheless does not mean that all the children of the district were in «slaves», for many avoided getting into the network, but most of the unconscious were there. To fall into slavery was possible in a variety of ways, which Tonya knew a lot: blackmail, getting into a debt trap, persecution, boycott, intimidation, propaganda etc.
A man could begin to harass: to call publicly and on the web, to humiliate, spread false rumors about him, to put all sorts of jokes and offensive jokes, even to beat him, only to make him enslaved. They could frighten a person: throw Molotov cocktails twice a week in his windows, track him down, try to attack and threaten without stopping, spoil the door of his apartment or the surface of his parents' car, hoping to force him to make a concession. There were, however, other methods, much more subtle and effective, and among them the most frequent reason for falling into slavery was a loan taken once from Antonina, but never returned by money, but paid for by personal freedom.
In our time, among the teenagers, consumer sentiment flourished, and so everyone wanted to buy something very special for boasting, which was spurred on by Tonya herself, which forced slaves to distribute advertising booklets around the school. The schoolboy, according to the established mechanism, learned about some novelty, wanting to buy it, and then, having refused the parents, went immediately to Tone, where he borrowed money for quite a long time, after that completely forgetting about it. He was informed that he should hundreds of times more than usually taken in a couple of months, including not only interest, but also «commissions» and «penalty payments», and when he could not return the debt, which was always in mymemory, he suggested that he «work out», and if he did not agree, then baiting began.
Often a person was first «hooked» on small loans returned to them on time, preparing to accept a large one, which was drowning the financial position of the individual: large loans could amount to many tens of thousands of rubles, and sometimes hundreds, but millions were already asked to go back. It is in credits that we seek the origins of this phenomenon of our school, since the issuing of loans began the slave system not only in some states of antiquity, but also in the modern school. Initially, in quite a long time, Antonina organized with her friends an organization that was some kind of middle link between a cooperative and a secret society, which was called «Gobsek Cooperative»; girls initially accumulated a certain amount of money, starting to give out loans to all who wish, gradually accumulating capital and people involved in working off debts.
Over time, the girls learned how to extract «household» benefits from slaves, forcing them to work for themselves, and then they were able to take profits out of service, obliging them to different activities of their dependent ones, and then this profit was made the basis of income; over time, they learned to simply exploit people with the help of the apparatus of repression, becoming full-fledged slave-owner.
The most interesting method of involving people in the slave-owning network, however, was based on their good will, that it can look strange from the side, although here we find the reason why this system can not be called slavery. The fact is that if from the very beginning a few and homogeneous socially dependent simply had to serve the «Gobsek», working off debts, then in time their number exceeded one hundred, and their composition became less homogeneous: there were those who worked for a long time, working off the debt, newcomers on duty, driven by the power of blackmail and harassment. Initially, there was no connection between slaves and slaveholders, except for the debt receipt that fulfilled this role, and this connection was not needed especially, because order could be maintained without it, but now it was needed very much. As the number of slaves grew, and the domestic work of the slave owners coped with the previous number of those who had long been dependent, it forced the girls to force slaves to engage in new activities: primarily trade and handicrafts, carrying them money at the cashier's desk.
The system became less stable, alienation grew, and with it the level of dissatisfaction that was spread by force forced into slavery; did not like the «new» slaves and the fact that the «old»girls serve in the girls houses, and they are forced to freeze, selling all the rubbish in the market, risking getting sick or getting into a madhouse. When the rebellion of the slaves is already ripe, Antonina, who was only the former accountant of Gobsek, took advantage of her position and support of some slaves who believed her, took possession of all the financial assets of the cooperative, which were kept in the form of money and coins of gold and silver in safes.
After that, she became a full-fledged and absolutely autocratic chief of the organization, having carried out a structural reform: «Gobsek» was abolished, and instead of it there was the organization «Union», all of whose members were declared personal slaves of Tony and divided into three categories. The first category of slaves consisted of those who helped her in the criminal atrocity of usurpation, as well as from other girls who founded the cooperative together with her; the second consisted of those who had been in slavery for a long time, and therefore could claim the best working conditions; the third category was formed from newcomers. Slaves of the first category performed only command functions, and even had fun and had leisure with slaves of lower categories; slaves of the second did not work too hard, such as cleaning in the homes of slaves of the first category, as well as Antonina, the maintenance of simple accounting, the purchase of goods, etc.; slaves of the third category were used in the heaviest and dirty work, like dragging building materials during the construction of a summer cottage or in street trading. A kind of social elevator was created, consisting in the fact that for a good job the slave could be raised to the second and then to the third category, and in addition to this an ideological system was created, primarily consisting of mandatory weekly meetings, which required to buy agitation materials, knowledge of which was checked at the following meetings. These materials included not only the «Journal of the Patriotic Schoolboy», but also the «Bulletin of the Center for Ultra-Right Propaganda», as well as newspapers such as «The Enemy of the People» and special websites with paid access, one of which was called «The True Troll», and the other «Bozhenko and bitard», as well as many other printed and electronic Tony projects, both one-time and permanent.
